Their Story

March, 2019

I originally wrote this story for a Fairy Tale Fiction module at university, as a modern retelling of A.S. Byatt’s ‘Gode’s Story’. Without spoiling too much, it explores the role of women in traditional fairy tales, as well as our connection to fantasy and reality; a concept which was heavily influenced by Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth*Potential Spoilers* I have often debated changing the ending, to make my aversion towards the traditional fate of 'fallen women' more obvious, rather than seeming to conform to it, although let me know what you think in the Contact section. Or if you'd like to know more about the thesis of the piece or have any other questions, please feel free to send me a message at jmprowriting@gmail.com.
